Woman Arrested With ₦12m During Stop-and-Search Operation in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 48-year-old woman after she was allegedly found in possession of ₦12 million in cash during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Nkpor–Idiani–Abatete Road.

The suspect, identified as Mrs Chinwe Okonkwo, an indigene of Imo State, was arrested at about 1:24 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

According to a police source, the arrest was made by personnel of the Safer Highway team while conducting routine stop-and-search operations along the road.

The source said the officers discovered ₦12 million in cash in the suspect’s possession and questioned her about the source of the money.

She was reportedly unable to provide a satisfactory account of the origin of the funds, prompting the police to take her into custody for further investigation.

The recovered ₦12 million has been registered as an exhibit, while the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka.

The police said investigators would establish the source of the funds and determine whether the money is connected to any criminal activity.

The case remains under investigation, with further developments expected to be communicated by the command.
