AFN INTENSIFIES PEACE DRIVE IN NORTH CENTRAL, DEPLOYS MORE LAND ASSETS UNDER OPERATION WHIRL STROKE

In a renewed effort to enhance troop mobility and operational effectiveness in the North Central region, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, have delivered a substantial consignment of mobility and combat equipment to the Headquarters of Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) in Makurdi, Benue State.

The newly deployed assets including Troop-Carrying Vehicles (TCVs), gun trucks, personal protective equipment, and over 100 motorcycles are intended to boost tactical agility, improve force protection, and enhance the overall combat readiness of troops operating against persistent asymmetric threats in the region.

Acknowledging the development on Thursday, 19 June 2025, the Force Commander of JTF OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, noted that the delivery reflects the Defence Headquarters’ commitment to fostering synergy among military and other security agencies. He emphasized that the strategic deployment of gun trucks by the CDS is focused on enhancing mobility and survivability, while the motorcycles provided by the COAS are expected to significantly improve rapid response capabilities in rugged terrain.

General Gara also expressed deep appreciation to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, for deploying additional air platforms to OPWS. He stated that the enhanced air support further strengthens surveillance, reconnaissance, and close air support for ongoing ground operations.

He added that the new assets would be immediately integrated into ongoing clearance and stabilization operations to extend operational reach, improve situational awareness, and reinforce troop morale.

This strategic reinforcement marks a significant boost in the military’s operational capacity, underscoring the Armed Forces’ unwavering commitment to national security and lasting peace.
