The 8 Division, Nigerian Army, says there is no truth in a social media report alleging an attack on the residence of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, His Lordship Matthew Kukah, and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral.
The Division, operating under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, described the claim circulating on Facebook as misleading and unfounded.
It said no such incident occurred in Sokoto State, stressing that both Bishop Kukah and the Catholic Cathedral remain safe and secure.
According to the Army, the Bishop is currently carrying out his Easter religious duties without any form of disruption.
The Division urged members of the public to disregard the false report and avoid the spread of unverified information capable of causing panic among residents.
It reaffirmed its commitment, in collaboration with other security agencies, to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens within its Area of Responsibility.
The Army also said robust security measures had been put in place across Sokoto State to guarantee a peaceful and secure Easter celebration.
The statement was signed by Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
