Army Releases Two Suspected Kidnappers in Jos North After Finding No Credible Evidence

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have released two persons earlier arrested over suspected involvement in kidnapping activities in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, after investigations failed to establish credible evidence against them.

The suspects, identified as Cuthber Tapgun and Sani Alhassan, were arrested by troops of Sector 3 OPEP at about 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 4, 2026, during a search-and-rescue operation around the Dong general area.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the two suspects were subsequently released after investigators found no credible evidence linking them to kidnapping or other criminal activities.

The sources, however, said investigations into the wider security situation in the area were still ongoing.

The release followed further assessment of the case, with the military maintaining that the suspects could not be held without sufficient evidence to substantiate the allegations against them.

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have continued to sustain security operations across their area of responsibility to contain criminal activities and prevent further threats to residents.
