Armed bandits have killed a farmer and injured another in separate attacks in Rafi and Borgu Local Government Areas of Niger State.
Zagazola Makama gathered that the first incident occurred on Wednesday at about 1 p.m. when bandits in large numbers stormed Dogon-Fili village, Rafi LGA, shooting sporadically.
A farmer, identified as Ranau Usman, was shot dead during the attack, and his unregistered Bajaj motorcycle was taken away.
In a separate incident on the same day at about 4:30 a.m., three armed men invaded Gadowa village in Marami District, Borgu LGA, moving from house to house and dispossessing residents of their valuables.
At the residence of Yakubu Bulus, the attackers demanded money he had received from the sale of his cow as ransom for the release of his brother, who was in captivity. When he refused, Yakubu was injured, but he managed to use his Dane gun to kill one of the bandits while the other two fled into the bush.
The injured victim was taken to Udu Private Hospital, Marami, where he is receiving treatment, while the corpse of the dead bandit was deposited at Babanna General Hospital.
