Bandits kill hunters’ leader in Benue community

Suspected bandits have killed a local hunters’ leader in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue.

 

The incident, which occurred on Friday evening, happened when the deceased, Mr. Hilenen Terzungwe, led five hunters on patrol along Biriji village in Tine Nune.

 

Zagazola  learnt that the hunters were ambushed by the bandits during the patrol. Terzungwe sustained deep machete cuts in the attack and was rushed to a medical facility in Tine Nune, where he later died while receiving treatment.

 

His corpse has been deposited at the General Hospital in Zaki-Biam.

 

Community sources said efforts were ongoing to trace the attackers, while local vigilance groups had intensified patrols in parts of Ukum to check bandit activities.

 

Zagazola  reports that Ukum, part of the Sankera axis of Benue, has remained one of the hardest-hit areas by banditry and violent crimes in recent years.
