Armed men suspected to be Berom militia have attacked and injured a Fulani herder, Abdulsalam Nuhu, and shot 10 cows in Gero area of Gyel District, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, leaving Nuhu with an arm injury, while four additional cows were reported missing.

Sources said three of the 10 cows shot during the attack were slaughtered, while the remaining seven were shot but not slaughtered.

The latest incident comes barely three weeks after an Oct. 4 attack on traders returning from Kara Cattle Market in the same local government area, raising fresh concerns over recurring violence and attacks on livestock in the area.

Other incidents reported on June 16, June 26 and June 30, 2026, also remain unresolved, with calls for thorough investigations and accountability for the victims.

Stakeholders have called on security agencies to conduct impartial investigations into the incidents, identify and apprehend those responsible, and ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice.

They stressed that accountability must be pursued without ethnic or religious bias, warning that failure to address repeated attacks could deepen mistrust and further threaten peaceful coexistence among communities in Plateau State.

They urged security agencies to intensify efforts to prevent further violence, protect lives and property, and ensure justice for all victims.
