Two herders have been killed and several cattle shot during an attack by Berom Militia suspected to be local residents in Fass village, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on Nov. 4, 2026, when troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), responded to a report of an attack on herders and their cattle in the community.
On arrival at the scene, the troops discovered the bodies of two herders identified as Sani Aminu and Jafaru Ibrahim, who had been shot dead.
The troops also found one cow killed and three other cattle bearing gunshot wounds, while the attackers had fled before their arrival.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the herders were grazing their cattle on a maize farm in Fass village when they were attacked by armed men.
The bodies of the deceased and the affected cattle were subsequently handed over to their family members for necessary action.
Meanwhile, troops have activated human intelligence networks to track down the perpetrators, while efforts are ongoing to engage Fulani leaders in the general area to prevent possible reprisals.
Security authorities are also working to calm tensions and forestall further violence following the incident.
