A farmer-herder clash at Rafin Dadi, Kaninkon, in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has left one person dead following an attack allegedly involving Fulani herders armed with cutlasses and sticks.
Zagazola gathered that the incident occurred on August 24, 2026, when troops of Sector 7, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), responded to a distress report in the area.
Upon arrival, the troops discovered that a resident of Rafin Dadi, identified as Mr. Reuben Akawu, had sustained serious injuries after allegedly being attacked by Fulani herders armed with cutlasses and sticks.
Akawu was immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, Kafanchan, for medical attention but later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, members of the deceased’s family and other Fulani residents reportedly pledged N197,000 to the family to support burial expenses.
Security personnel subsequently arrested one of the suspects, identified as 20-year-old Gambo Ibrahim.
Efforts are ongoing by the troops, in collaboration with Keystone Kafanchan, to track and apprehend other suspects who fled the area following the incident.
The arrested suspect is expected to be handed over to Keystone Kafanchan for further investigation and prosecution.
Security personnel have continued to monitor the area to prevent further escalation and maintain peace between the affected communities.
Authorities have also urged residents to remain calm and avoid retaliatory actions that could further heighten tensions in the community.
