Five security officers have been detained following a joint investigation into the Feb. 12 security breach at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport (NAIA), authorities have said.
The investigation, conducted by the Department of Security Services(DSS), Nigerian Imigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) and the Federal Ministry of Aviation, led to the detention of five officers over alleged compromise of airport security protocols.
Those detained are Ayuba Yakubu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP); Murtala Inuwa of the DSS; Najeeb Murtala, an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI); Musa Adamu of Aviation Security (AVSEC); and Salihu Victor, also of AVSEC.
Security sources said the officers were alleged to have received bribes to facilitate unauthorised entry into restricted areas of the airport and to obstruct lawful security operations.
The officers have been handed over to the ICPC for prosecution.
Authorities further disclosed that other personnel from the NIS and NCS, whose involvement was found not to be criminal but amounted to abuse of uniform to facilitate unauthorised access, would face administrative sanctions.
The agencies reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strict security standards at the nation’s airports and ensuring accountability for any breach of established procedures.
