Gunmen attack herders in Edo community, slaughtered the injured cow, and carted away the meat under the cover of darkness

Tension has gripped residents of Ahia/Onogholo axis in Edo State following a suspected case of cattle rustling and gun attack on herders along a rural route near Ahia Market in the Ubiaja area.
Zagazola Makama gathered that the incident occurred on the night of July 6 at about 10:00 p.m., when unknown gunmen reportedly emerged from the bush and opened fire on a group of herders returning with their cattle to Okene, Kogi State.
According to a resident of Oloshi community, one of the cows was shot during the attack while the rest of the herd scattered, along with the herders.
The sources further claimed that the attackers returned later that night, slaughtered the injured cow, and carted away the meat under the cover of darkness.
Community members say the motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no one has taken responsibility.
Sources indicated that inquiries were made in the area to determine the identities of the assailants, but local residents denied any knowledge of the incident.
Police sources say efforts are ongoing to uncover those responsible for the violence, as the affected herders called for support in tracing the perpetrators and recovering their dispersed cattle.
