Herders pay ₦4.5m compensation to 38 farmers over farm destruction in Plateau

Herders have paid ₦4.5 million in compensation to 38 farmers following the destruction of their farms in Dambwash, Danbukor and Fokko villages in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The compensation followed an agreement reached on Aug. 19, 2026, after the farms were reportedly destroyed on Aug. 16.
Troops of Sector 5, Operation Enduring Peace, Bokkos, facilitated an amicable settlement between the affected farmers and the herders on Saturday, Sept. 12.
All parties involved in the dispute were present during the settlement, including the Ardo of Tarangol District, who participated in the resolution process.
The herders subsequently fulfilled the agreement by paying the sum of ₦4.5 million to the 38 affected farmers as compensation for the damaged farms.
The military said the settlement was concluded peacefully without any incident.
The development highlights the importance of community-based conflict resolution in preventing disputes between farming and herding communities from escalating into violence.
Security forces have continued to encourage affected communities to seek peaceful resolution of disputes and avoid resorting to reprisal attacks that could further worsen tensions in the area.
