Hit-and-run driver kills police senior officer in Gombe

A senior police officer, ASP Clement Yunana, has been killed following a hit-and-run accident along Bauchi Road in Tumfure area of Akko Local Government Area.

 

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on Thursday around 5:00 p.m. near Matrix Fueling Station, when an unidentified vehicle knocked down the officer as he was attempting to cross the road.

 

ASP Yunana, 50, was attached to the Railway Police Outstation in Bajoga, Funakaye LGA.

 

Police officers at the scene rushed the victim to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he was admitted for emergency treatment. However, he died at about 6:50 p.m. the same day.

 

His body has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the fleeing driver.

 

The police have appealed to the public for information that may aid in identifying the vehicle involved in the fatal incident.
