Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled another attempted attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists along the Maiduguri–Damaturu road in Yobe State, forcing the insurgents to flee in disarray.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 4:30 a.m. on April 26 when troops of 233 Battalion deployed at Tango 4 location sighted the terrorists advancing toward their position near Kukareta in Damaturu Local Government Area.

The sources disclosed that the insurgents, mounted on about six gun trucks and several motorcycles, were detected approximately one kilometre from the troops’ location.

According to the sources, the troops responded swiftly with a combination of direct and indirect firepower, overwhelming the attackers and forcing them to retreat in confusion.

“The terrorists fled the area under heavy fire from the troops,” the source said.

The troops subsequently conducted exploitation of the general area, but no significant items were recovered.

The sources added that troops have maintained heightened vigilance in the area, with intensified patrols and surveillance to prevent further attempts by the insurgents.
