Lakurawa  ambush kills 2 soldiers in Niger republic, injures 5

Two soldiers have been killed and five others injured in an ambush carried out by suspected Islamic State-affiliated Lakurawas fighters in the Dosso region of Niger Republic, military sources have said.

 

According to an army report, the attack occurred on Friday, April 10, 2026, at about 15:25hrs in Angoual Doka Karama, a locality located about nine kilometres from Dioundou.

 

The attackers reportedly engaged troops of the 72nd Inter-Armed Battalion (BIA), killing two personnel and injuring five others during the encounter.

 

The slain soldiers were identified as 2nd Class Private Assoumane Inoussa and 2nd Class Private Abdoul Wahab Issa, according to the military source.

 

The assailants were also said to have set ablaze two military vehicles before retreating from the scene after the ambush.

 

Security sources did not immediately provide details on whether reinforcement troops were deployed to pursue the attackers following the incident.
