Nigerien Forces Repel Attack in Tillabéri, Neutralise 41 Armed Assailants

Niger’s Defence and Security Forces (FAN) have reportedly repelled an attack by armed assailants on a military position in Torodi, Tillabéri Region, killing 41 attackers and capturing two others alive.
According to information released by the Nigerien authorities, the incident occurred on Tuesday when the armed group attempted to overrun the security position.
The authorities said the troops responded swiftly, forcing the remaining attackers to flee after an intense exchange of fire.
Military sources added that a cache of weapons and equipment was recovered during the operation, including machine guns, rocket launchers, several AK-47 rifles, motorcycles and communication radios.
The Nigerien authorities commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism, describing the operation as another demonstration of the military’s resolve to defend the country’s territorial integrity and protect its citizens.
The authorities also called on members of armed groups operating in the country to lay down their arms and embrace peace, warning that security forces would continue sustained operations against groups threatening national security.
The Tillabéri Region, located in western Niger, has witnessed repeated attacks by armed groups linked to extremist organisations operating across the Sahel.
