The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms, ammunition and other incriminating items along the Oyo–Ogbomosho Expressway.

Police sources said the suspects were intercepted on June 15 at about 1048 hours by personnel of the Safer Highway Patrol during a routine stop-and-search operation.

The vehicle, a gold-coloured Nissan Maxima with registration number FKJ 666 KA, was stopped along the highway and searched by operatives.

During the search, police reportedly recovered one live cartridge, two jackknives, a cutlass, one handcuff, substances suspected to be Indian hemp, and a uniform resembling that of a security outfit identified as Soul-Safe Corps.

The two occupants of the vehicle, Ibrahim Muhammad Dabban and Ndako Suleiman, both of Sabo Area in Sagamu, Ogun State, were immediately arrested.

Following further investigation, operatives of the Vigilante Crime Response Unit (VCRU) said one of the suspects led them to Ogun State, where a follow-up search of his residence led to the recovery of two pump-action rifles, three live cartridges and one expended cartridge.

Police authorities said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected criminal gang, while investigations into the case continue.

The command assured that the suspects would be prosecuted upon conclusion of investigations.
