The Police Command in Kaduna State has arrested two suspects in connection with the deadly attack on the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Mubarak Haruna, 31, of Ungwan Tabo, Kachia, and Adamu Danladi, 32, of Ungwan Galadima, Kachia, were arrested following intelligence-led operations after the incident.

Sources told Zagazola Makama on Sunday  that the two are currently being detained at the Area Command Headquarters, Kafanchan, for further investigation.

Efforts, according to the source, have been intensified to arrest other fleeing members of the gang linked to the attack.

The arrests followed the attack on Saturday night when an unspecified number of gunmen invaded the Zonkwa Divisional Police Headquarters at about 8:45 p.m., shooting sporadically.

During the assault, station guards positioned at strategic locations were forced to retreat into nearby bushes due to intense gunfire and the station’s unfenced perimeter.

Two officers DSP Monday Madaki, 55, the incident duty officer, and Insp. Bin Magaji, 49, the charge room officer — were fatally shot during the attack.

They were later rushed to the General Hospital, Zonkwa, where a medical doctor confirmed them dead.

The Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised his men and called for military reinforcement, while the assailants fled the scene before backup arrived.

No arms were lost during the incident, and normalcy has since been restored in the area.

Meanwhile the police has also recovered an AK-49 rifle and 200 rounds of live ammunition from a suspected gunrunner in Giwa Local Government Area.

Sources said that the suspect, identified as Murtala Usman, 28, of Galadimawa Village, Giwa LGA, was intercepted by operatives of the Kidandan Division on Saturday.

The operation, which was based on credible intelligence, was conducted at Karau Karau Outstationaround 11:15 a.m., leading to the recovery of the AK-49 rifle with breech number 600338 and 200 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he usually collected the rifle from Saminaka in Lere LGA for onward delivery to his accomplice in Maidaro Village, Giwa LGA.

He is currently in custody and providing useful information to aid further investigation.

Authorities said efforts were ongoing to arrest other accomplices connected with the arms trafficking network.
