Police, civil protection guards repel bandits’ attack on Benue community

The Benue State Police Command has repelled an attack by suspected armed bandits on Owewe village in Ichama community, Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state.
Zagazola Makama report that the incident occurred at about 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 30, while villagers were gathered for a burial ceremony.
According to the source, policemen on patrol, in collaboration with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, responded promptly to a distress call and engaged the attackers in a gun duel.
“The bandits were overwhelmed by superior firepower and fled the area,” the source said.
Following the attack, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okpokwu Division reinforced the area and led a team of security personnel to the community to track the fleeing suspects and effect their arrest.
The source added that investigation into the incident had been taken over by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Zagazola reports that security patrols have since been intensified in the area to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.
