The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) says its operatives have dislodged a kidnappers’ camp and arrested a suspected informant in ongoing operations against kidnapping syndicates.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation followed sustained investigations after the arrest of a wanted kidnapper and recovery of arms and ammunition on Aug. 21.
According to sources , on Saturday, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit traced and successfully dislodged a kidnappers’ camp located in the chasm of Kurunduma, between the Karu–Guzape hills.
The sources explained that the camp was notorious for holding hostages kidnapped from Karu, Guzape, and Apo general areas, adding that its location in thick vegetation and caves without network coverage had previously enabled kidnappers to evade tracking.
The sources added exhibits recovered from the camp included empty beverage bottles, takeaway food packs, and cans of alcoholic drinks.
The sources said that in a follow-up operation, the team stormed the suspected hideout of one Abdul Gajere, a wanted kidnapper, at Ado Yelwa village in Nasarawa State.
“On sighting the operatives, the suspect fled into the hills and escaped with suspected bullet wounds. Efforts are ongoing in collaboration with local vigilantes to trace him, while hospitals in the area have been alerted for necessary assistance,” said the sources.
The sources also confirmed that operatives arrested one Maigizo Ardo, 40, suspected to be an informant of the gang, at Karshi via Orozo.
The sources assured that investigation was ongoing and that the command remained resolute in flushing out kidnappers and criminal elements from the FCT and its environs.
