Police probe alleged human trafficking as woman accuses suspect of attempting to sell sister abroad

The police have commenced an investigation into an alleged human trafficking case after a woman reported that her younger sister was being held abroad and allegedly being prepared for sale to another country.
Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the case was reported at about 4:20 p.m. on July 23 by Bunmi Adeniji, who alleged that her daughter, Olamide Adeniji, 18, and her younger sister, Bimbo Adeniji, 30, left home in August 2025 for an unknown destination.
According to the complainant, her daughter later returned home on Aug. 30, 2025, and disclosed that a woman identified as Rukayat Oshoku, said to be from the Edu area, had attempted to lure both of them to Libya.
She alleged that Olamide managed to escape while they were being transported from Kano State towards Libya, but her aunt remained with the suspected trafficking network.
The complainant further stated that she had since been making efforts to secure the return of her sister to Nigeria.
According to her, she recently received a telephone call from an individual in Owode, who claimed that Rukayat was making arrangements to move her sister to another country, warning that urgent intervention was needed or the victim might never return home.
Following the report, detectives launched an investigation and invited the suspect’s mother to the police station in an effort to persuade Rukayat to facilitate the victim’s return to Nigeria.
Police sources said several telephone conversations were held with the suspect, but she allegedly refused to cooperate.
The case has been slated for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the allegations and to determine the whereabouts of the alleged victim.
