Stakeholders have called for unity among communities and the need to counter misinformation surrounding recent security incidents during a peace engagement held in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the stakeholders’ meeting, organised by the Gideon and Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation, was held on Friday at the Bokkos Local Government Conference Hall.
The meeting was attended by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), Maj.-Gen. EF Oyinlola, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, OPEP, Brig.-Gen. MS Sule.
Also in attendance were the Plateau State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, the Director-General of the Plateau Peace Building Agency, the Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, traditional and religious leaders, representatives of security agencies, as well as community and youth leaders.
According to the sources, participants deliberated on misconceptions and misinformation surrounding the military’s response to the recent attack on Kawel village in the Mushere Central District.
The meeting also emphasised the need to strengthen unity among the Mushere people and bridge communication gaps, particularly involving women and youths, as part of efforts to promote peaceful coexistence and prevent further violence.
Sources said the engagement ended peacefully without any security incident.
