The Taraba State Police Command has urged young people across the state to reject political thuggery, violence, misinformation and cyberbullying as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The command made the call on Saturday, August 22, 2026, during activities marking the International Youth Day with the theme, “Different Context, Common Aspirations.”
The event brought together various youth organisations from across the state at the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) Hall, Divisional Police Headquarters, Jalingo, following an enlightenment walk through major roads and streets in the metropolis.
Speaking during the engagement, the police urged youths to avoid being used as instruments of political violence and other activities capable of threatening peace and security in their communities.
A police source who spoke on the event said the participants were also sensitised on the dangers of misinformation, cyberbullying and digital manipulation, while being encouraged to promote safer communities and build trust with security agencies.
The source said the engagement was particularly important ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing the need for young Nigerians to participate in the democratic process peacefully and responsibly.
“Youths were urged to support a peaceful, credible and inclusive democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections,” the police source said.
The Command Management Team was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Umar Shehu Didango.
Also present were the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), DCP Nandiak Tissing; Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, DCP Umar Fakai; Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and other senior police officers.
The police authorities emphasised that youth participation in governance and community development should be channelled towards constructive engagement rather than violence, intimidation or the spread of false information.
The participants were further encouraged to use digital platforms responsibly and avoid activities that could undermine public safety, social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
The International Youth Day programme ended successfully and without any security incident, according to the police.
