Three Cows Die, Three Others Fall Sick After Suspected Poisoning by Locals in Plateau

Three cows have died while three others became sick after allegedly grazing on a suspected poisonous substance at Chikam Village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 9:00 a.m. on Aug. 8, when troops of Sector 5, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), responded to a report of cattle poisoning in the community.
A security source who briefed Zagazola Makama said the troops, upon arrival at the location, discovered three dead cattle and three others in sick condition.
The source said the affected animals were believed to have consumed a poisonous substance while grazing.
“Three cattle were found dead while another three were sick after reportedly grazing on a suspected poisonous substance,” the source said.
The troops have commenced investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish whether the cattle were deliberately poisoned.
The development comes amid recurring tensions between farming and herding communities in parts of Plateau State, where security agencies have continued to intervene in disputes involving farmland, grazing activities and livestock.
