Three persons have been confirmed dead following a mob attack at Fikayel market in Bayo Local Government Area of Borno State after a violent altercation involving a motorist.
Security sources said the incident occurred on April 3 at about 5:30 p.m. during a market day when a dispute broke out between a driver, Babangida Dan-Inna, 25, and three men identified as Sani Jauro Nalala, 50; Lauwali Muntari, 47; and Shaibu Muntari, 38, all of Yalwa village in Yobe State.
It was gathered that the confrontation escalated after one of the men allegedly used a machete to inflict severe injuries on the driver’s forehead and jaw.
In retaliation, a mob reportedly descended on the three men and beat them to a stupor before security operatives arrived at the scene.
The victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Briyel, where they were confirmed dead on arrival. Their bodies were deposited in the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The injured driver is currently receiving treatment at a primary health centre in Fikayel, where he is said to be responding to treatment.
Police sources said photographs were taken at the scene, while machetes and sticks used during the incident were recovered as exhibits.
Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those involved in the mob action, while investigation into the incident continues.
