Troops Arrest Four Suspected Pipeline Vandals in Delta

Troops of Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation Delta Safe, have arrested four suspected pipeline vandals in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.

 

Security sources said that the suspects were apprehended at about 1:00 p.m. on April 23 during a joint operation involving troops of 181 Amphibious Battalion, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and surveillance guards.

 

The operation followed intelligence reports on suspected vandalism activities along the NNPC/Pan Ocean pipeline at Ugo community.

 

On arrival, the security operatives reportedly discovered a dug-out tunnel suspected to have been constructed for the siphoning of crude oil from the pipeline.

 

The sources said four suspects were arrested at the scene, while preliminary investigation indicated that they were allegedly contracted by one Mr. “Biggy”, who is currently at large.

 

The suspects are currently in military custody, while the illegal tunnel has been sealed off.
