Troops of CIB VIII have arrested a suspected crude oil bunker and intercepted a wooden canoe loaded with eight sacks of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in Rivers State.

Security sources said the operation was conducted at about 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, around the Okwuzi waterside general area in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.

The troops reportedly intercepted the wooden canoe during a security operation targeting illegal petroleum activities in the area.

One suspect was apprehended and handed over to the OANDO security team for further action, while the recovered items remained in military custody.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb illegal refining, petroleum product trafficking and other activities associated with crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.

The authorities are expected to take further action in line with established procedures as investigations continue.
