Troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade Garrison, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and Forest Guards, have arrested a suspected ISWAP scout during a successful ambush operation in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was conducted at about 2:00 a.m. on July 18 behind Buni Yadi community following intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorist scouts and informants in the area.
The sources said the security team laid an ambush along the suspected route, leading to the arrest of one injured suspect believed to be working as a scout and informant for the terrorists.
Three bicycles, suspected to have been used by the operatives for movement and reconnaissance, were also recovered during the operation.
The sources, however, disclosed that one member of the Forest Guards sustained injuries during the operation and was immediately evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
The arrested suspect is in custody and is expected to provide useful intelligence to aid ongoing operations against ISWAP/cells operating in the North-East, while troops have intensified efforts to track down other fleeing members of the network.
