Troops Discover, Destroy Improvised Explosive Device on Kukawa–Monguno Road

Troops of the Nigerian Army have discovered and safely destroyed an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the Cross Kauwa–Kekeno–Monguno Main Supply Route (MSR) in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Zagazola sources reliably informed that the device was discovered at about 7:30 a.m. on Thursday by troops of the 123 Special Forces Battalion during a routine MSR scanning patrol at Dowoshi.
According to the sources, the troops immediately secured the area and alerted a reinforcement team comprising personnel of the 19 Brigade Military Search Team (MST) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts.
The EOD team subsequently mobilised to the location and safely detonated the booby-trap IED without any casualties or damage.
The sources said no contact was made with the terrorists responsible for planting the explosive device.
They added that the successful operation prevented a potential attack on troops and civilian road users while ensuring the continued safety of the strategic supply route linking Cross Kauwa, Kekeno and Monguno.
The sources further disclosed that troops deployed in the area remained vigilant, with morale and operational efficiency described as high as clearance and counter-IED operations continue across the North-East theatre.
