Troops of 120 Task Force Battalion have recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition along a suspected terrorists’ escape route in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Security sources disclosed that the recovery was made at about 11:45 a.m. on May 21 during a patrol operation conducted by the troops around Goniri area.
The development followed an earlier failed attack launched by suspected ISWAP terrorists against the troops’ position in Goniri on May 9.
According to the sources, troops conducting exploitation patrols along the suspected escape corridor of the terrorists discovered one AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing 19 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition abandoned in the area.
The recovered weapon and ammunition are currently in the custody of the troops for further necessary action.
Military authorities said the continued patrols and exploitation missions formed part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorists freedom of movement and recover abandoned arms within the North-East theatre of operations.
