Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have discovered and safely detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) in Mairari town along the Gajiram axis of Borno State.
Security sources said the device was detected at about 9:00 a.m. on April 17 by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and route scanning team deployed from a Forward Operating Base in the area.
According to the sources, the IED was found at the edge of the town’s exit gate, raising concerns about potential threats to both civilians and security personnel using the route.
The EOD team subsequently carried out a controlled detonation of the device without incident, after which the general area was thoroughly scanned to ensure no additional explosives were present.
Preliminary findings suggest that the device may have been planted by insurgents prior to the deployment of troops to the location.
They added that the general security situation across the theatre remains calm but unpredictable, with sustained operations ongoing to secure communities and critical routes.
