Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have discovered and safely neutralised an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Ngoshe–Pulka road in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno.

Sources said that the incident, though reported belatedly, occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on March 31 during a routine route clearance operation.

The source said the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion detected the IED while conducting a scan of the main supply route (MSR) ahead of the deployment of piqueting troops along the axis.

“The IED, suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram terrorists, was discovered buried along the MSR at Bokko area on the Ngoshe–Pulka road,” the source said.

He added that the EOD team swiftly recovered and detonated the device in situ, thereby preventing potential harm to troops and civilian commuters.

The source further noted that the route clearance was part of ongoing efforts by troops to ensure the safety and security of critical supply routes in the North-East theatre of operations.
