Troops of 1 Brigade Combat Team 2 operating from Forward Operating Base Kaura Namoda have foiled an attempted reprisal attack by armed bandits in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Security sources said the troops, while on night patrol at about 8:13 p.m. on April 5, 2026, responded to intelligence on a planned attack on Kungurki village.
The attempted attack was reportedly linked to a previous ambush on armed bandits earlier in the day by members of the Zamfara Community Protection Group (ZCPG).
On arrival, the troops engaged the suspected attackers in a brief exchange of fire, neutralising one of the bandits, while others fled with gunshot wounds.
The area was subsequently dominated by the troops to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.
Authorities said patrols and surveillance operations are ongoing in the general area to forestall reprisal violence and restore lasting stability.
