Troops of the Nigerian Army, Sector 8, in collaboration with Fulani community leaders and members, have recovered cattle suspected to have been rustled in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The cattle were recovered on Sunday, Aug. 9, following a joint operation targeting suspected cattle rustlers of Magwavul extraction and their accomplices around Tambes through the Mile 8 axis of the local government area.
According to information obtained by Zagazola Makama, the operation followed intelligence on the movement and activities of suspected cattle rustlers operating in the area.
The troops, working closely with members and leaders of the Fulani community, moved into the affected area and recovered the livestock.
The collaboration between the security personnel and the community leaders was said to have contributed to the prompt recovery of the cattle and prevented the suspected rustlers from taking them farther away from the area.
Community members commended the security personnel for their swift response and intervention, describing the recovery as an important step towards protecting livestock owners and reducing cattle rustling in the area.
The operation also pointed to the importance of community participation and cooperation with security agencies in combating rural crimes, particularly cattle rustling, which can fuel tension between farming and pastoralist communities.
