Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have neutralized one terrorist following an attack on civilians along the Osaba–Ojantelle road in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.
A security source said troops of Sector 1, deployed at Ochumekwu, responded to a distress call at about 5:00 p.m. on March 28 regarding an attack on local residents.
According to the source, the troops made contact with the attackers, leading to a firefight during which one of the assailants was neutralized, while others fled into surrounding bushes.
“The remaining terrorists escaped with possible gunshot wounds,” the source said.
He added that troops have continued to dominate the general area to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.
The source reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Whirl Stroke to sustaining aggressive patrols and denying criminal elements freedom of action within Benue State and adjoining areas.
