Troops, Police Restore Calm After Communal Clash in Niger Community

Troops under Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force have restored calm following a communal clash in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
Security sources disclosed that troops of 18 Brigade and police personnel responded to a distress call at about noon on May 22 after violence erupted between members of a Fulani community and residents of Kumuku community in Tegina area of the state.
According to the sources, the clash resulted in the death of one person before security operatives intervened to prevent further escalation.
The troops and police were said to have swiftly dispersed the crowd and restored order in the affected community.
Authorities confirmed that normalcy has since returned to the area following the intervention of security agencies.
To forestall renewed violence and maintain peace, a curfew has also been imposed in the area.
Security agencies have continued patrols and monitoring operations within the community while residents have been urged to remain peaceful and cooperate with authorities to sustain stability.
