Troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recovered 37 cattle during patrol operations conducted in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Security sources disclosed that troops from Forward Operating Bases (FOB) Sabon Birni and Gatawa carried out coordinated patrols on May 22 across Garin Faji, Zalla Bango and Garin Bature villages to deny terrorists freedom of action and reassure residents of improved security presence in the area.

According to the sources, the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to combat banditry and restore confidence among communities affected by criminal activities in parts of the North-West.

During the patrol, troops reportedly made contact with suspected terrorists at Garin Bature in the Fadama area across a river bank.

However, the criminals fled the area on sighting the advancing troops, avoiding direct confrontation.

The troops subsequently exploited the general area and recovered 37 cattle suspected to have been rustled by the fleeing terrorists.

The recovered livestock were later handed over to local government officials for further necessary action and possible identification by rightful owners.

Military authorities said troops have continued aggressive patrols and clearance operations across vulnerable communities to disrupt the activities of terrorists and other criminal elements operating within the region.
