Troops of Sector 1 under Operation Enduring Peace have recovered 12 cattle suspected to have been rustled and returned them to the family of a slain herder in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the recovery was made at about 4:00 p.m. on July 18 during a clearance operation in Kwakwalaji village.
The sources said the cattle were identified as belonging to a herder who was recently killed in the area. Following the recovery, the animals were formally handed over to the deceased herder’s father.
Military authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to curb cattle rustling and other criminal activities while restoring confidence among communities affected by insecurity in Plateau State.
They added that troops will continue to sustain clearance operations and patrols across vulnerable areas to protect lives, property and livelihoods.
