Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have recovered 164 rustled cattle during a fighting patrol in Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi State.

Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 10:15 a.m. on March 23 across Bunga, Garin Kaba and Garin Bagobiri communities.

During the patrol, troops made contact with armed terrorists moving with suspected rustled cattle towards the Kumbodoro general area in Taraba State.

Following a gun battle, the terrorists were forced to abandon the livestock and flee. The recovered cattle have since been secured by the troops for further action.

In a related development, troops conducting further exploitation in the area discovered the corpses of three vigilante members believed to have been killed during an earlier encounter with terrorists on Feb. 26.

Authorities said operations were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and enhance security across the affected communities.
