Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled an attack by suspected armed herders in the Daudu area of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State.
Zagazola Makama gathered that the attempted attack occurred around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, during a routine clearance patrol conducted by the troops in conjunction with other security operatives.
Security sources said the troops came under sudden gunfire from the suspected terrorists while advancing through a known flashpoint along the Daudu–Gbajimba axis.
The troops swiftly returned fire, engaging the assailants in a fierce gun duel that forced them to retreat into the surrounding bushes.
“No casualty was recorded among our personnel, and the area has since been secured,” the sources said.
The troops have intensified surveillance in the area to prevent a resurgence of hostilities and are conducting follow-up operations to track the fleeing attackers.
