Troops of 17 Brigade have repelled an attack by suspected terrorists in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, following coordinated responses from forward operating bases in Matazu and Malumfashi.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on April 5, when the assailants launched coordinated attacks on Matazu and Sayaya villages, during which a Comprehensive Primary Healthcare facility and two vehicles were set ablaze.

Troops were immediately mobilised and engaged the attackers in a firefight, forcing them to withdraw from the area.

Following the clearance operation, the troops conducted an exploitation of the general area and recovered two motorcycles believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing attackers.

However, one police officer was killed during the incident.

Security presence has since been reinforced in the affected communities, with troops maintaining aggressive patrols aimed at denying the terrorists freedom of action and preventing further attacks.
