Troops have repelled an attempted attack by suspected terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Mayanchi in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the terrorists, riding on motorcycles, attempted to infiltrate and attack the military position at about 5:05 p.m. on July 18.
The sources said troops at the base swiftly engaged the attackers, while reinforcement troops from Forward Operating Base Fangaltama were deployed to support the defence of the position.
The coordinated response forced the terrorists to abandon the attack and retreat without breaching the military camp.
Military sources said the successful defence of the base also ensured the continued security of the strategic Sokoto–Gusau Main Supply Route (MSR), preventing any disruption to military and civilian movement along the corridor.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security forces to deny terrorists freedom of action and maintain pressure on armed groups operating across Zamfara State.
