Troops Rescue 12 Kidnap Victims in Zamfara

Troops of 1 Brigade Combat Team 6 have rescued 12 kidnapped victims in Bukuyyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Military sources said the victims were intercepted by troops deployed at Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) Bagega and Gwashi at about 6:39 a.m. on May 25 along the Bagega-Anka and Gwashi-Gurusu routes.
According to the sources, preliminary investigation revealed that the victims escaped from terrorist captivity following an air interdiction operation conducted by a Nigerian Air Force helicopter gunship west of Bagega Forest two days earlier.
The victims, who are indigenes of Bukuyyum and Anka Local Government Areas, were said to have spent several weeks in captivity before regaining freedom.
The sources added that efforts were ongoing to reunite the rescued victims with their families.
They reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustaining coordinated ground and air operations aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves and rescuing kidnapped persons across the state.
