Troops respond to attack on Benue community, evacuate injured resident

Troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have responded to an attack by suspected armed assailants on residents of Azebiam community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops, deployed at Kyado, were mobilised at about 3:23 p.m. on July 18 following a distress call reporting an attack on the community.
According to the sources, by the time the troops arrived, the attackers had fled after shooting a resident.
The injured victim was immediately evacuated by the troops to the Primary Health Centre in Kyado, where he is receiving medical treatment.
Military authorities said troops have continued to dominate the general area and intensify patrols to forestall further attacks and track down those responsible for the incident. They urged residents to continue providing timely information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
