Yobe State has experienced significant flooding between April 15th and September 9th, 2024, causing widespread devastation across several Local Government Areas (LGAs).
This advisory serves as early WARNING ⚠️ ALERT⚠️ for further flooding due LIKELY impending discharge of water from Dadinkowa Dam, Hadeja-Jama'are River, River Kamodugu, and Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.
The flooding poses a serious risk to already vulnerable communities, many of which have sustained severe damage from previous floods.
Advisory and Safety Precautions for Residents:
Yobe @sema_yobe advises all residents to take immediate precautions. The following LGAs attached and communities are at high risk of potential flooding due to dam discharges:
Safety Measures for Residents:
1. Preparation for Relocate to higher ground if you live in a flood-prone area or near any rivers at risk of overflowing. SEMA will identify potential Safe Zones
2. Secure important documents and valuables by moving them to safe locations.
3. Stay informed by regularly listening to updates from traditional leaders, local government authorities and the state emergency management agency.
4. Keep emergency contact details handy for quick access to response services.
This advisory is issued to ensure that residents remain alert to minimize the risk of loss of lives and property.
