43 Boko Haram family members intercepted after escaping terrorist captivity in Borno

Troops of the Operation HADIN KAI have intercepted 43 family members linked to the Boko Haram after they reportedly escaped from terrorist captivity during clashes between rival Boko Haram factions in Borno State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the group was intercepted at about 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 23, 2026, by troops in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the individuals had escaped from terrorist captivity in Yuwe following clashes between ISWAP and Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS).
The sources said the group was subsequently handed over to personnel of 7 Military Intelligence Brigade (7 MIB) for further investigation and appropriate action.
The interception is significant as it provides security agencies with an opportunity to obtain intelligence on the activities, movements and internal clashes of terrorist factions operating in the area.
Further investigation is expected to establish the identities of those intercepted, their individual circumstances in captivity and whether any of them have links to terrorist activities.
Security agencies have continued to intensify operations across parts of Borno State to prevent terrorist groups from exploiting population movements and rural communities for recruitment, logistics and other forms of support.
