Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), on Thursday called on members of the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Alumni Association to strengthen professional bonds and deepen strategic partnerships in the interest of national security.
Buratai made the call in Abuja while serving as Special Guest of Honour at the inauguration of the association, held at the TY Buratai Hall, Asokoro.
He commended the College for establishing the alumni platform, describing it as a critical mechanism for sustaining institutional memory, harnessing the expertise of graduates and contributing to policy formulation and operational planning.
Buratai, who established the College in 2017 during his tenure as COAS, urged members to remain united in purpose and vision, saying their collective wisdom could significantly enhance the effectiveness of the Nigerian Army and the broader national security architecture.
According to him, the association should serve as a hub for innovation, mentorship and strategic influence, with members playing active roles in addressing emerging security challenges and advancing national development.
In his remarks, Commandant of AWCN, Maj.-Gen. UM Alkali, said the association would preserve institutional memory, foster mentorship and enhance interagency cooperation in line with the COAS’ command philosophy of transforming the Army into a motivated, combat-ready force.
The event was attended by senior military leaders, past participants of the College’s flagship course, and representatives from sister services and government agencies.
Highlights included the unveiling of the association’s logo, inauguration of an interim executive committee, and a lecture on the “Strategic Value of Alumni Networks in National Security Development” delivered by Brig.-Gen. JN Temlong (rtd).
