GOC 3 Division visits traditional, Fulani leaders, pledges stronger peacebuilding in Plateau

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander Operation ENDURING PEACE, Maj.-Gen. W.M. Dangana, has reiterated the military’s commitment to strengthening peaceful coexistence among communities in Plateau State.
Dangana made the commitment on Sept. 3, 2026, when he visited the Gwom Rwei Gyel Palace and later held a meeting with Fulani leaders in Jos South Local Government Area of the state.
At the palace, the GOC, accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Operation ENDURING PEACE, and the Commander, Sector 6, was received by the representative of the Gwom Rwei, Da Gwom Sot, Da Joshua, members of the palace cabinet and other community leaders.
Discussions during the visit centred on peaceful coexistence and measures to address emerging security challenges in the area.
Dangana reiterated his commitment to peacebuilding and informed the traditional leaders about a committee he had constituted to address farm-related disputes and other forms of criminality across the Joint Operations Area.
In recognition of his efforts towards peace and security, the Traditional Council of Gyel bestowed on the GOC the traditional title “Rwagat Gyel,” meaning “Shield of Gyel.”
Later in the day, at about 2:30 p.m., the GOC and his entourage met with Fulani leaders in Jos South LGA.
During the meeting, the Fulani representatives expressed concerns over issues affecting their communities, particularly alleged farm-related disputes as well as attacks on herders and cattle.
The GOC assured the leaders that their concerns would be appropriately addressed, while emphasising the need for continued dialogue and cooperation between communities and security agencies.
The engagements form part of ongoing efforts by Operation ENDURING PEACE and other stakeholders to strengthen confidence-building, prevent communal conflicts and promote lasting peace across Plateau State.
