Gunmen attack Fulani settlement in Benue, rustle livestock

Armed men have attacked a Fulani settlement in Anwule Oglewu village, Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue, rustling livestock and leaving one person injured.

 

Zagazola Makama learnt that the incident on Thursday in Makurdi, said the attack occurred on Aug. 28 at about 5:00 a.m.

 

Sources  said the gunmen stormed the settlement, shooting sporadically, which caused residents and livestock to flee into nearby bushes.

 

“During the attack, the assailants killed and carted away one cow and a sheep. One resident, Haruna Musa, aged 28, sustained machete injuries to his head and hand.

 

“Another member of the community, identified as Usman Alhaji, 35, has not been seen since the invasion and is feared abducted,” said the sources. 

 

The sources  said security operatives from Ohimini Division, supported by tactical teams, were immediately mobilised to the scene while the injured victim was rushed to the Health Clinic, Idekpa, for treatment.

 

The sources  added that a bush-combing operation had been launched to track down the attackers and rescue the missing resident.
