Troops of 1 Brigade have restored normalcy in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State following a protest by residents over persistent insecurity in the area.
Military sources disclosed that troops responded at about 8:45 a.m. on June 8 following reports of a civilian protest that resulted in the blockage of the Zurmi–Dauran Road.
According to the sources, the protesters expressed concerns over security challenges affecting communities within the local government area and obstructed vehicular movement along the major route.
A reinforcement team was subsequently deployed to the scene to prevent a breakdown of law and order and ensure the free flow of traffic.
The troops successfully dispersed the protesters and reopened the road, restoring normal activities in the area.
During the operation, three soldiers sustained minor injuries and were evacuated to a hospital for medical attention.
Security sources confirmed that the injured personnel are in stable condition.
Normalcy has since been restored in the area, while security agencies continue to monitor the situation to prevent further disturbances.
Authorities have urged residents to remain law-abiding and channel their grievances through appropriate and peaceful means while ongoing efforts to address security concerns continue.
